Cover the Gaps In Your Medical Insurance
Supplemental Insurance fills the natural gaps in your City of Yakima and FOP insurance plans, providing on-the-job protection for you and complete peace of mind for your family. Use this page to learn more about how and why you can benefit from supplemental protection. As we like to say…
“Medical insurance pays doctors and hospitals to keep them in business.
Supplemental insurance pays you to keep your family in business.”
Cover the Costs that Medical Insurance Misses

Why Supplemental?
There Are Natural “Gaps” in Your City of Yakima Insurance
Your City of Yakima and FOP insurance plans offer high quality medical coverage you should take advantage of. However, like most medical insurance, these plans contain natural gaps in coverage and availability that can leave you exposed in the wake of a major medical event. For example…
City of Yakima Insurance
- The maximum out of pocket limit is $4,400 per covered person and $8,800 per family. If you experience a major medical event (injury, heart attack, cancer) it’s likely you will quickly reach this threshold with no additional financial support. Can you afford an unplanned $8,800 insurance bill?
- Physicians and other health care providers must be in network, or reduced benefits could occur. Specialists for cancer (or other acute illnesses) may or may not be covered under your plan.
- Experimental treatments are not covered under your plan.
- You cannot take your medical insurance with you when you retire.
FOP
- In order for benefits to kick in you have to be “disabled” from being able to perform your job. Many common medical events will likely not get you classified as “disabled.”
- FOP covers only yourself. If something happens to one of your family members, FOP will not pay out.
- For long term disability, the waiting period is 90 days, and benefits will only be 60% of your income.
Supplemental Covers the Gaps
Supplemental insurance is designed to cover the limitations in your standard medical insurance, paying cash directly you for a variety of common expenses (not just doctor or hospital bills).
- Pays on or off the job, and you can take it with you upon retirement.
- Covers your entire family, not just yourself.
- Pays up to $30,000/month unlimited. Can be used for mortgage/rent, groceries, medical treatments, etc.
- Premiums are 100% refundable. If you never need your coverage your entire set of premium payments are refunded to you.
- Coverage is very affordable.

Cancer
Out of the blue, your spouse is suddenly experiencing physical pain and unexplained medical symptoms, even though they have never had any major heath problems. They are diagnosed with a rare, but early stage, cancer. Your local oncologist believes it to be treatable, but refers you to the Mayo clinic, who specializes in this particular type of cancer. Over the next several months you and your spouse make five trips to the Mayo Clinic to undergo an experimental cancer treatment.
